PORTAS

My new exhibition of recent work on paper opens at the Centro de Artes e Ofícios, São Brás de Alportel on Friday 8th May at 18h.  PORTAS explores the delicate idea of the connection of all things in watercolour and relief print.

I am interested in connectivity; interconnectivity, mycelium networks, the lines we walk, the marks we make. I am interested in liminality; the spaces between, at the edge, the undefined moments between this and that, the grey. I am interested in similarity; pattern making across the globe and across the ages, texts and textiles, words and gestures, that are definitive proof of connection and similarity rather than difference. I am interested in repetition, weaving, the creation of beauty out of the mundane, looking for the sublime in the simplest of things, often mushroom related.

This exhibition PORTAS is the first of two exhibitions. The second, NÒS, is an exhibition of related sculpture at the Centro Museológicodo Alportel which opens on the 22 August. Huge thanks to the Câmera Municipal de São Brás de Alportel for the creation and organisation of these incredible spaces – it is a joy to be exhibiting in them.
